Dextrose is a type of simple sugar made from corn. It is similar to fructose and chemically identical to glucose (aka blood sugar). Dextrose can be added to cooking and baking, as well as being used as an artificial sweetener in drinks and fructose corn syrup. Dextrose can also be used to extend shelf life.
